Make-up Tips for Older Women

Eventually, the effects of time begin show on our faces. Here are four simple techniques to look your best no matter what age you are.

1. Instead of the traditional lip liner pencil, line your lips with a stiff bristled brush using your blush. This gives your lipstick the staying power that helps prevent any bleeding or feathering of your lip color around your lips.

2. To set your make-up, apply a loose translucent powder with a powder brush in the morning and do not reapply during the day. Excessive powder, especially from a compact, accentuates lines and wrinkles. If you need a touch up for shine, simply use a fluffy brush and smooth it over your face.

3. Lessening the appearance of jowls (the lines from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth) is accomplished with Beige or cream color highlighter. Using a highlighter de-emphasizes the shadow created by the jowl thus making it less noticeable. To lessen the appearance of a saggy neck, use a non-frosted powder slightly darker than your natural skin tone and apply it under your chin. This creates the effect of a shadow, therefore making it less prominent.

4. Forget the myth that you shouldn't wear frosted eye shadow over the age of thirty. Frosted eye shadows, if applied properly, can make you look young. Never use one color on the entire eyelid! Use one light color under your brow, one color on your eyelid close to your lashes and one slightly darker shade on the crease if desired. And, most of all... Blend, blend, blend!

Remember that subtlety is the key. Armed with these four techniques, you have the arsenal to take on aging and look your best!

Beautiful Eye Shadow Effect for Tan or Dark Skin

Here is a tip for women with tan or darker complexion. I saw it on Beyonce Knowles. Put a bronzer or an eyeshadow with bronze highlights all over the eyelid. Put black eyeliner along the lash line, then follow it with dark eyeshadow along the lash line. White eyeshadow on the upper lid is not a good idea. If you have warm tanned skin, this bronze color may suit you well. If you have fair skin, use caution, because the metallic sheen can give an aging appearance on your skin.

I am going to share with you three of my simple yet best-kept makeup secrets.

  1. First, for highlighting under the eyebrows to give a fresh, wide-awake look I use a pink highlighter pencil. You apply the pencil under the eyebrows, inside near the bridge of the nose, and to the outside between the eye and the hairline. Blend with a white foam sponge. I always feel as if I had taken off a couple of years after using this bright eye technique.

  2. My second secret is an eyeliner with shimmer. The glitter built into the pencil give my eyes an extra sparkle when I go out at night.

  3. My third secret is clear mascara. It is so difficult to find clear mascara nowadays, but having neat eyebrows all day really makes a difference.

Acne and Skin Conditions

Acne, or the formation of pimples on the skin, is a condition that affects many people the world over. It can start in teen years, or even in middle age. While it appears all to prevalent today, it is not a modern problem.

Numerous recipes were created to cure "spots on the face," including wearing garlic around the neck and standing under a full moon. In Victorian times, corsets were blamed and later chocolate. The worst part of the sometimes-chronic disorder is the lack of reasoning behind why it occurs. We as a modern public have advanced capabilities including DNA testing, yet simple
Acne is not understood fully.
Up until the early 1990's, doctors were still casting blame on greasy foods, salt and chocolate as the main cause of breakouts. Parents blamed a child's cleansing habits. What has surfaced, however, is that the true culprits of Acne may differ greatly and many times lack explanation. Hormones, atmospheric conditions, allergies, over production of oil, the list goes on can be some of the contributing factors.
So too can vitamin and mineral deficiencies play a major role, such as in the case of zinc, which aids in the production of new skin tissue. Essential oils, however, can be a supplement to prescribed or daily skin treatments. Retin-A is a popular topical prescription. A derivative of vitamin A, it is basically free from side effects and works quite nicely.
It is costly however. Carrots, which contain a high amount of vitamin A have been traditionally cooked, mashed and applied to the face as a mask to help relieve the immense discomfort Acne can pose. To get an even heightened effect, oil or essential oil of carrot and carrot seed have be used. That Girl's Night Cream is a great moisturizer for all skin types because of the type of oils we use. There is misleading information about oil. Oils in moisturizers are helpful and oils in moisturizers are made usually for all skin types.
Acne Mask
1 carrot cooked and mashed 10 drops carrot essential oil 1 capsule vitamin A oil (optional) 1 teaspoon parsley Mash hot carrots and add other ingredients. Let cool slightly and apply to face, staying away from the eye area. Let dry and wash off with warm water.
Do no more than twice a week. Non-medicated soap is suggested for use twice a day. Why not add a few drops of carrot oil to liquid cleansing products? Healing lavender, green clay, emu oil or purifying tea tree also can work wonders. Try that girl's lavender and oatmeal soap.
The key is to find your specific type of Acne and pick oils that will best fight your battle.

2008 CNN HEROES

Lucy Liu. Yuck, too much bulge in the front but otherwise it would have been a pretty dress.

Eliza Dushku attention grabbing number in this split Dolce & Gabbana gown.

Taylor Swift.

Molly Sims jeweled brooch really made her two-toned halter gown more interesting.

Kate Beckinsale wore a satin YSL dress with a gold lining, which I loved .She wore her dress with black patent belt which also had a gold lining and black platform sandals.

Selena Gomez. Great Hair Cut. Hot Bangs. I love her black and white ensemble, very classic and a Coco Chanel Staple. The outfit fits like a glove.

2008 American Music Awards PT. 2

Ashlee Simpson wore a stunning Greco-Roman short chiffon number with a gold belt. The green clutch added some drama, dare to be colorful which was much needed. This may have been done because green is a safe color to mix and match with because its a neutral. I Love her shoes, so cute!

Trends: I noticed soft fem pieces, white, and gold colors mostly on the red carpet. Big bangles some colorful pink or white with gold accents and "the skinny jeans" or tights are still very fashionable. Tights in solid colors, intense colors, and prints like plaids etc have come back. As well as wearing tights under jeans like shorts or skirts.

MY Favorite Award goes to Leona Lewis.

In a mauve tufted chiffon and sequin Jenny Packham dress. She knows lavender purple is her color. Stunning.

Sexy Award:

It was Sarah Chalke. The actress took the the red carpet wearing a bust enhancing, corseted Zac Posen Stingray satin dress, that oozed sophicated sex appeal. She completed her look with trendy Christian Louboutin heels. I love her waves in her hair and her come heither smoky eyes and nude lipstick.

Queen Latifa. Oh no she didn't.. this dress is a no no. The color is pretty and in style but the fit is all wrong for her figure. Too tight it makes her look thicker than she is and not in a flattering way. The shoes, are perfect. Get it, girl, get it! Her smoky eyes and nude lips completed her sultry look. Love the clutch, earrings, hairstyle and bangle bracelet.

Pehobe Price. The dress is surprisingly a nice one, not over-the-top dress. I like it is very creative and the color works well with her red hair. Alicia Keys. She's really inspired by Indian fashion. Alicia Keys is very lovely in this Armani Privé royal blue one shoulder gown with Swarovski crystal trim, but its not my favorite. I do however like the old school matching blue eye shadow because Alicia looks amazing in that color.

Four Christmases Los Angeles Premiere & Others

As I said before animal prints and cardiagans or sweaters set will becoming back in. The one pictured is Rebecca Taylor.

Reese Witherspoon with blonde waves in her hair, arrived on the red carpet in a navy strapless Nina Ricci sheath dress with a gold embrodiery detail on the bodice. Her accessories include a bronze clutch , open toe laced slingbacks, gold dagger and anchor necklace. Her blue eyes really popped.

Rhianna is not wearing the exact Givenchy ensemble, but it's clear that she was inspired by their Fall 2008 collection. Rihanna sported a huge array of statement necklaces with gold crosses over her turtleneck, just like Givenchy did. She also wore latex leggings, a black blazer, a black fringed scarf, strappy sandals and a Gucci 'Hysteria' bag.

Sessilee Lopez for Bergdorf Goodman I add her because I think she is very beautiful.

2008 American Music Awards Part 3

This is the outfit I mentioned in the first post about the 2008 American Music Awards Show. This is so kewl I love It!!! She's rockin it, very ferious! I wish I looked like that. This outfit would have been better than the other two she wore walking down the red carpet.

Carrie Underwood who wore a nude embroidered gown, was chic! I loved her hair, earrings and makeup.

The two pictures following are of Beyoncé Giselle Knowels (born September 4, 1981), and Katharine McPhee. They are best dress as well.

I like the youthful trendy look of Kimberly Wyatt from the Pussycat Dolls in Christian Siriano Spring 2009. (Pictured at the end on the right side.) Melody Thornton, of the Pussycat Dolls, in Christian Siriano Spring 2009. (Pictured on the left end in the yellow). Melody Thorton wore a lime green halter-neck dress, with pewter strap sandals. Nicole Scherzinger wore a gorgeous strapless grey mini dress with a purple ombre hem. She completed her look with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. Ashley Roberts also wore a strapless mini, but hers was nude with a black overlay, which she paired with black strap sandals.

Demi Lovato in Gustavo Cadile Spring 2008
Paris Hilton one of the worst dress. Just because your family has money doesn't mean your not white trash. I know that sounds way harsh, but this looks like a cheap dress. One you would buy at Rave that falls apart one wash later or splits while dancing at a night club. This is not a Hollywood Award show dress but I did like that the fact she showed off her legs and that she wore minimal accessories, but this would have been a good time to wear more since the dress is not the focual point. Then again you would have to worry about too much. Maybe if she keeps trying she will get it right one day.
Miley Cyrus in a beautiful gold and black Marchesa Spring dress. This dress was one of my favourites. She completed her look with Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Too bad this dress is not age appropriate.

Ashley Tisdale in Philosophy Fall 2008 not my favorite but I like this one.
And lastly the black Dolce & Gabbana gown is sexy, without being slutty on Mariah Carey.

Eye Makeup Application

Add Image
According to Eye Shapes

Each eye shape can be enhanced if needed, with placement of eyeshadow. Small eyes can look larger and bulging eyes can be recessed a little. Wide apart eyes can have the illusion of being closer together. I trust these simple explanations can help with your eye shadow application.

SMALL EYES. to recognise this as your shape, there seems to be very little space between lashes and eyebrows, so we need to give the appearance of a much larger eye. Apply a light colour on the eye lid.
Use a darker shade in the socket (or crease) of eye and bring this colour to the outer corner to lengthen eye area. With a dark toned eyeliner, outline eye, intensifying colour slightly at outer edges of eye, then slightly smudge. Use a light highlighter along the brow bone to add width to eye.

DEEP SET EYES. This type appears like a hooded eye. Place a light coloured shadow over entire lid, and apply a highligher along the brow bone line. Use a darker toned shadow, and begin at the socket line and blend color out above the crease to recess the area.

Use a small amount of eyeliner, in a thin line for definition only along top lid and 2/3'rds along lower lid blending towards the outer edge.

NORMAL EYES. If you are fortunate enough to have this shape you can be as adventurous as you like. What you should be aiming for with eye makeup is to make your eyes look even more attractive by giving them strength with the help of eyeliner pencil. A pale color can be blended on lid while a darker shade is smoothed into the outer corners and socket line to give more depth and character. Finish off with a coat of mascara.

AGEING EYES. can look years younger with the help of soft contouring. Use eyeliner pencil around the outer corner of the eyes, making sure that the line is kep thin. Avoid frosted shadows completely. Apply a soft toned shadow, like a mossy green, light brown or grey with a hint of blue in it, to the outer eye area, keeping the color close to the lashes. Use a soft peach color on your inner top lid. Mascara often looks too thick and unnatural on older eyes, so try to have lashed tinted instead OR apply mascara lightly.

PROTRUDING EYE Bulging - the goal here is to recess the eye lid, from seemingly to protrude. Use a dark toned eye shadow and blend this over the eye lid, fading colour away near eye socket. Apply eyeliner along top lid, and lightly smudge. On lower lid, draw eyeliner at outer corner only and smudge softly. Apply highligher on brow line. Please dont use light or frosted colours on eye lid, as this will make eyes pop out futher. With this eye shape, finish off with some navy or deep grey pencil on inner rims to help make the eyeballs appear smaller.

CLOSE SET eye shape. These need a dark shadow blended into out half of the eyes to give illusion that they are further apart. Start by drawing your pencil out a little just above natural eye crease. now blend a strong colour into the outer area. The inner top lid area can
be left natural or a pale colour can be used if you like. When applying mascaras, brush your top lashes outwards, concentrating on the colour with an extra coat on outer lashes.

ASIAN EYE SHAPE - usually has a minimal eye lid and eyes are wide space. Gently brush a light or neutral colour over eye area and blend towards nose area. Using a darker shadow, apply to lid, starting along lash line, and fading the colour upwards and out to a half-way pint between lash and eyebrow.

Apply eyeliner close to lashes to give appearance of thickened lash line. Line the lower lid and smudge to soften the line.

WIDE SET EYES can appear closer set and more attractive if you emphasise the inner eye area with colour to draw eyes together. Apply eyeliner pencil all way across the bottom lid with only a tiny extension on the outer corners. Apply any strong coloured shadow to
your outer socket line, but instead of extending it up and out, angle it towards your inner brows. Further enhance this with a lighter shade on your inner lid and complete the look with mascara concentrating on inner lashes.

DROOPY EYES. These need to be lifted at the sides with the help of clever shading on the outer areas of the top lid. A little extra eyeliner slanted upwards on the corners and further blended and subtly extended with shadow plus extra mascara on the top lashes.

2008 American Music Awards

Here are some of my picks of the hottest woman last night on the 2008 American Music Awards. Then the hot clothes or accessories that will or has crossed over.

1st I'll Start with Gwen:

Gwen Stefani never disappoints. She has a unique style and seems to know what is hot. She also opted for the retro look with her all white outfit, short shorts and platinum blonde hair. She made it her own by wearing the outfit and not the outfit wearing her so to speak. Plus she add touches of trendiness making it modern, which is what you should do. Example the thick blunt cut bangs which are in, The late 1970's early 1980's big sunglasses. The she added a classic chic Hollywood scarf around her neck to complete the look. Notice the shades are not in a blue or any other over-the-board color as were the 80's.

This look of Gwens is very similar to her cover album in 2006. This is a tricky look because. If you walked in dress like Lucille Ball head to toe 1950's you would be in the Don't category. One should always wear a couple of retro pieces mixed with modern flairs. She looked absolutely amazing!

Jordin Sparks. Another mini dress, she loves them and lot of stars have been spotted wearing minis. So minis as still here. Jordin is a beautiful girl and I like her classic makeup and hair, but nothing extra special. Jordin Sparks is wearing a yellow dress by Dolce & Gabbana Pre-Fall 2008 Collection. The look is okay but too spring and youthful for her. This type of dress would look better on a young star such as Miley Cyrus, but the color is stunning on her.

Christina Aguilera in Elie Saab Fall 2007 Couture. Most people do not like her look at the awards or are confused. I will say her hair looks a lot better then it did on the finale of TLC. Her satellite interview with MTV at her studio behind her house. Her hair was a mess, tore up, a SM, and it looks so much better tonight. I love her hair the best. Bangs are very in and flattering on her and her glamorous curls are very blonde ambition, old Hollywood, meets diva. She is usually known for her old Hollywood glamour and stage drag queen makeup, think Cleopatra. I'm glad to see she is not over done (makeup) like the September of 2008 awards. The dress is pretty and her look is more classic starlet almost winter princess. Her dark lips are still fashionable. Think of Gothic glamor which we saw a lot more of in Septembers fashion. The dress is very pretty but I am very disappointed that a star of her statue is wearing a gown from last years line!

Taylor Swift in Collette Dinnigan Spring 2009. She is always pretty with her flawless skin and I thought her gown fit her fabulously. It looks like it was made for her, thats how a dress should fit, and she was dress age appropriate. I thank her stylists for the not trying too hard look. The coloring of her Collette Dinnigan gown was just right for her complexion and complimented her eye makeup well. I adored Rihanna's one black outfit she wore on stage while performing at the American Music Awards. Her hair and makeup is right on as usual, a Rock Chic Look. A Very attractive woman, but I'm confused I'm not sure if I like her dress or not. I don't like the dresses she has been wearing lately on the red carpet. They have been "What not to wear".
I give her snaps for trying new thing by being different, but some of her red carpet outfits have been too out there to be fashionable. Rihanna looked as if some one carelessly dressed her fast by wrapping a cloth around her body and added a string or belt to secure the rag. It also looks like a"granny" outfit and the color's okay but not the best. I love that she is daring enough or as Coco Channel said "Dare to be Different".

After I saw this dress on Ali Landry, This reminds me of the fluro pink dress and black belt Jessica Biel wore to the oscars a couple of years ago, I changed my mind about Rihanna and will put her on my Best Dressed List instead. This dress is ugly and the only good thing I can say is the color is both pretty in general and works well with her skin tone. It was not daring enough and I give this a thumbs down.

I will now move onto PINK... this is the best I think she has very looked but....

Elle Macpherson was the first to wear this Vivienne Westwood Fall 2007 dress at at the 2007 Marie Claire Prix de la Mode event in Madrid last November. Pink in wearing a modified Vivienne Westwood from Fall 2007 . I like Elle better in this dress the bottom half but I think Pink fills out the top half better. Pink also has a better hairstyle to go with it because this is a punk take on glamour. So any slight punk updo would work very well and complete the look. The down side once again is someone with $$$ and Hollywood static wearing a dress that has been wore before. I give her a B for look (she looks great) and D for effort. Her accessories were kept to a minimum, and soft curls added femininity.
I will post my other fav's later.
Post a comment and tell us your opinion.

Spedi Eloped

In case you haven't heard Heidi and Spencer made it official and eloped in Mexico. I'm surprised they didn't have it filmed into reality show. I wonder if cheesy photo-ops will be discovered. These two deserve each other, but please don't reproduce.
