Dessert Pizza

Dessert Pizza: Strawberry, Banana, Jam & Chocolate Pizza. I’ve always wanted to try a dessert pizza and I've tried many different kinds before. Like fish types with artichoke and anchovies. I got an opportunity when I had some extra strawberries and bananas one hand.

Since most stores are carry strawberries at low prices. I need a way to use them creatively before they spoiled, and I didn't want to use them for dessert. Been ____...done that. After some free time searching online and through old cook books, dating as far back as Ms. Washington, I found some inspiration from a source I would not normally use; Paula Deen at Food Network.

Ms. Dean is a good cook and I have eating in your Georgia restaurant. Not to be cruel but I found her food to not be as good as I thought. I can cook better old fashion simple southern meals, and I'm not tooting my own horn. I thought Paula's dishes would be 4 or 5 stars restaurant quality but with a down home flair.

Her recipe served as an outline for me thought I made a few minor changes. I need a way to simplify this receipe and make it a quick dessert pizza but still retain it's flavor. Most mom's and parents today do not have much time on their hands. So in place of my usual refrigerated dough, I make by hand and from scratch, I used a Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix. I substituted almond or orange extract for vanilla extract, and strawberry jam stood in for the marmalade. A little powdered sugar went into the cream cheese along with a small amount of grated chocolate as a topping. I only had enough bananas and strawberries left over to use as mostly a fruit topping, but it was enough to make this a scrumptious dessert.

You should really try this dessert pizza out yourself one night when you stay in to eat. As many of us are today trying to find ways to save money. You can use short cuts to simplify this recipe.

How to Make Beaded Jewelry on Wire

This is an easy way to make a bracelet or anklet. If you are a first time jewelry maker this step by step directions make it super easy and fun. Enjoy!

Instructions
- Jewelry components you you'll need:

* Seed Beads
* Clasps
* Jewelry/ Beading Board
* Measuring Tapes & Ruler
* Metal or Memory Wire
* Pliers For Jewelry Making

Beading on Wire:

1. Choose about a 20-gauge wire. You can use either coated jewelry wire, flex wire or a gold- or silver-plated wire from your local craft store.

2. Cut a piece of wire about 4 inches long or longer, depending on the length and number of beads you will use in a set. Just like hair it is easier to cut excess wire than it is to add (redesign) your jewelry set.

3. Use round-nose pliers to make a small loop on one end of the piece of wire. To do this, grip the end of the wire with the pliers, gently twist the pliers and wrap the wire around them until they form a loop.

4. Slide the bead or beads you wish to use onto the wire.

5. Hold the wire vertically so that the beads will be secure against the first loop you made.

6. Take the round-nose pliers and form another loop on the other end of the wire. You may have to trim the excess wire to form a small loop. Trim only a little of the wire at a time as you form the loop until you have the loop size you wish.

7. Finish by using your pliers to slide the end of the loop down into the bead. This closes the loop and hides the end. You can also wrap the end of the loop with a fine wire for a nice, finished look.
Next blog post about jewelry will be how to assemble a seed bead bracelet. Until next time.

Fresh Pineapple Cupcakes

I wanted to make a fresh batch of tropical cupcakes. They seem fitting for this warm weather and season we are having. This is my cupcake version of my pineapple upside down cake.

You could use most any fruit or none at all. These are a real easy treat. If you got a hours time then you can make these delicate treats.
Substituted applesauce for the oil or add shredded coconut, peaches, apples or fresh mangoes instead of pineapple. Hum tasty, if you are not a big pineapple fan. They are so easy-to-make & not a sinful. A guilt-free treat! Both recipes are easy & a joy to make.
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup low-fat milk
  • 1 cup drained pineapple chunk, cut in 8ths
SERVES 12 , 12 cupcakes. Bake 35 min / 10 min prep time. Total 45 minutes.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F Line muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, oil and egg until smooth. Alternately whisk in flour mixture and milk, making three additions of flour mixture and two of milk, beating until smooth. Stir in pineapple.
  4. Scoop batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until tops of cupcakes spring back when lightly touched. Let cool in pan on rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool completely on rack. Top cooled cupcakes with frosting, if desired.
Tip: I used fresh pineapple, microwaved it three min, to take some juice out, and added dried cranberries. All this goodness under 200 calories a cupcake. If you do not think your children will eat them you can use pre-made icing or candy to decorate them. Then the cupcakes maybe more appealing. Have fun.

For a sinful cupcakes you may add glaze such as this cream cheese frosting.

Cream Cheese Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  • Beat cream cheese and butter in large mixer bowl at high speed until fluffy, about 1 minute.
  • Beat in Confectioner's sugar, 1 cup at a time, then continue beating until smooth.
  • Beat in vanilla. Chill bowl of frosting in refrigerator, stirring often, until good spreading consistency.
  • Makes about 2 2/3 cups - 25 min -25 min prep .

Easy Vegan Cupcakes

I found this simple cupcake recipe that I thought I'd share with our subscribers. You can substitute ingredients as you see fit, but I can not attest to the substitutes. This cake is moist and rich. In this recipe I replaced Milk with Soy though you can use most any liquid. Such as Water, Rice Milk or Almond Milk.

Almond milk is much lower in fat and calories than anything else listed, but with the exception of water. I found rice milk, a non-diary product, to be sweet and a good substitute for people whom do drink cow or goat's milk. If your new to diary substitutes for health or whatever reason rice milk or a flavored soy milk is a good first choice.

Vegan Cupcake Recipe:

40 minutes bake time / 20 minutes prep time.

SERVES About 12
(change servings and units). If you don't want cupcakes this would make a nice cake just change the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup soymilk, water, rice-milk or almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and line muffin pan with cupcake liners. Spray the muffin liners with oil.
  2. Whisk the soy milk and vinegar a measuring cup and set aside a few minutes to get good and curdled.
  3. In a large bowl, sift the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  4. Stir to combine. In a separate large bowl, beat together the soy milk mixture, oil, sugar and vanilla. Stir the dry ingredients and mix until no large lumps remain.
  5. Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full and bake for 20-22 minutes till done.
  6. Transfer to a cooling rack and let cool completely before frosting.
One piece of advice: definitely spray the muffin liners with oil. These stick like crazy! My experience is that it's important to follow the order of mixing the ingredients. Also, ensure the oven is fully preheated. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, don't peek before they are essentially done; otherwise the temperature in the oven falls and the tops can collapse.

Substitution cupcakes for cake: Don't have a muffin tin? Use a 9 inch cake pan. Substitute 1 tablespoon of vinegar instead of 1 teaspoon with 1 cup of milk. The teaspoon didn't seem to curdle the soymilk enough. I added chocolate frosting and coconut flakes on top - everyone loved it!

Summer Beach Essentials

Summer Beach Essentials - clothes, makeup, etc. Causal sporty wear.

1st remember your sunscreen, you want to protect your skin all over. Apply at least 15 minutes before going out in the sun. Well how do you go into the sun. Maybe I should say before you go outside and into the reflective water. I like to apply my sunscreen before I apply my makeup, but after I have put on my bathing suit. Make sure you use enough and you apply regularly while outdoors.

Minimal look, you should wear a minimum amount of makeup so use a tinted face moisturizer or baked mineral powder. Perhaps a self bronzer or self tanner, Mark by Avon has good ones as does Jergens. Powder Bronzer or mineral powder can be applied to face and body to give a sun kissed look. Jergen's is build able and long wearing, but if you are in a rush go with a bronzer. You can buy one for face and body.

I would suggest applying your self tanners enough days in advance to achieve the color you want. Don't apply too much bronzer under your eyes or on your eye lid. It will make you appear older by accentuating fine lines. Don't keep it too light (white concealer) or you will have a weird look. How to remedy? Keep it simple. Just apply most bronzer to your face and at last apply around eyes lightly. Apply a light amount to forehead near hairline for a realistic natural look.

Mascara: Waterproof mascara is a must. Mark by Avon has many good brands as does LA Colors and LA Colors Mascara is less expensive. We carry LA Colors Mascara in Waterproof and Water Resistant. Waterproof formula thickens, lengthens & separates lashes with intense color & definition. Special applicator brush separates each lash without clumping

Eyeshadow: If you must wear eyeshadow use a cream or wet to dry powder. I would wear my bronzer or warmth mineral powder as eyeshadow. One to two sweeps of cream colored shadow ( in a warm or cool tone depending on your skin type) under brown bone as a highlighter and bronzer below that. Highlighter may seem old fashion but if your3o & older it helps you appear more youthful. Apply a small amount of shimmer off white eyeshadow to the apple of your cheeks.

Not all over the apples just the part closes to your nose. Practice makes perfect. Keep it natural looking and minimal. You could just use a bronzer alone as eyeshadow. Finally apply off white near your tear ducts or white eye liner. To bring out your eyes.

Blush keep it simple and fresh. I don't usually wear blush, but if I did at the beach it would be a cream, gel. If powder the blush would be a peach color over top of my warmth bronzer. I think blush is old fashion unless applied correctly. Look under how to apply blush of this blog.

Bathing suite: string bikini never does out of style, but if you want the latest trend you can wear a floral print. Two piece tube top bathing suits or one piece halter style with deep neck lines and cut-away sides are also seen on the runway. Monokini is sexy but provides more coverage.

Now unless you have money to flatten yourself at a resort as if your on the runway with your favorite cocktail at hand your cover ups may have be more limited. Some women like myself may not want to get wet because the cover up is not meant to get wet. Instead you are sunbathing and socializing.

I want to give every day women on a budget ideas that they probably already have on had and functional.

Spring Cover ups - I bought this navy blue and white strip sun dress - a classic nautical look that is in style this spring (Image coming soon I'm taking a picture of it right this minute and will post it soon). I thought this cover ups or/and dress -is so
cute that I just had to share this with my readers & subscribers.

Summer Cover ups: You could wear a maxi dress, white or light denim shorts, light colored skirt and tank top, or a long shirt. Possibilities are endless and make sure not to rely just on the fashion magazines latest trends. Remember to wear the outfit and accessories not the other way around or regrettably you will play the part of a fashion victim.

The best way to spend little money, besides good sales, and update your wardrobe is modern accessories. Such as bracelets, shoes, hair accessories, scarf and hand bags. The way you wear them can also change the whole look of your outfit. Don't be afraid to play around.

As the warm weather approaches your summer beach -wear will Not be complete without accessorizing. Think sun glasses, bracelet, bag, sandals, etc. The one major key trend piece? The sheer trend. I see a lot of floral, metal and light colors. I think this is both sophisticated, glamorous and effortless way to add a little bit of splash to your beachwear. Grab a pair of over sized sunglasses and a big hat - live stylishly.

I have a bright floral print sheer top that I wear over my bikini. You can use a belt or buy one with a belt tie. My sheer top was bought years ago and is a kimono sleeve tunic or modern caftan.

Your outfit is a great way to express yourself by showing your personality, so experiment. Like a found a cool 60's inspired long top that if it was in a light color would be perfect as a pullover for my bathing suit.

I found this sheer beach cover up at: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26955092

Sunglasses are a must have accessory at the beach! If your on a budget inexpensive sunglasses is the way to go. So if your shades are losted you will not be upset. Your at the beach to have fun!

Bag - A small clutch of makeup essentials and small tote bag to use as a purse to throw in your sunscreen and makeup bag. A daytime look in light solid colors or cool patterns is preferred. If I plan on getting dirty swimming and playing at the beach like something easy to clean to brush the sand or soda off if I'm just going to the local beach. So a synthetic material (nylon) or Cotton canvas. If cotton best if it has a clean protectant that repels water and most stains. I call my totes a beach tote bag or overnight bag.

You don't have to send a lot of money and can find them most anywhere. Lands End, Kmart, online, department store, etc. My fav is a Dooney & Bourke cute cotton over night bag that would be perfect for the beach. It is a bit nautical with color choices of yellow, red or blue stripes and a second of white. Some have small print of a an animal like a duck.

Shoes: Depends on whether you are going for just the sun or fun. Sandals or flip flops are common in the style of the season. For comfort, if a new shoe, break them in first or wear your older part. (What about being seen in last season's sandals? Yes if classic your will not die of embarrassment).

How To Get Youthful Glowing Skin

Glow Like A Rose...

This is a homemade treatments that will put a rosy glow on your face.
For a rosy complexion...

1. Boil fresh rose petals and use this rose water instead of plain water for your skin treatments.

2. Prepare a rose face mask by grinding a handful of petals into a paste. Apply on clean skin and leave the application on for 15 to 25 minutes. Then wash with plain water (no soap). Your complexion will be smooth and glowing.

If you want you can simply buy rose water or toner that already contains a very small amount. *Remember everyone's skin is different by it's texture and how it reacts, etc. It is best to test a small spot on your skin first before applying all over. Make sure you are not allergic to rose or essential oils. You may want to add water or oil such as jojoba or olive oil to the paste before applying. If you have oily skin try Lavender instead, Lavender is much more gentle when applied directly to skin. Lavender does not need to be diluted with water nor carrier oils. No claims are made to cure, aid or treat any health condition or illness.

Simple Hot Cross Buns

I got this from Rhonda Cratty on TwitterMom. I thought this was a cute history lesson and recipe. Now this post is not to affend anyone whom is not Christian I just thought since it is a holiday to some I would share this recipe. You could alter the recipe by making it in too a different shape or make regular buns. Dating back to the fourteenth century Hot Cross Buns have been a part of Good Fridays. According to legend, on Good Friday the poor would visit abbey kitchens, where monks would give them a spicy currant bun with iced crosses. These Hot Crossed buns were considered blessed and believed to impart powerful protection.

By the eighteenth century, their popularity had grown and English street vendors would sell them by the bushel on Good Friday. Today hot cross buns are sold in bakeries throughout the season of Lent. This simple recipe can be whipped up for family and served with your favorite tea.

Easy Hot Cross Buns

Not the traditionally made buns, but these are delicious Hot Cross Buns are made in half the time.

Rhodes Dinner rolls
1 beaten egg
2/3 cups of currants
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 teaspoons granulated sugar
6 tablespoons milk

Coat large muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray

Place two frozen dough balls in each tin sprinkle in currants and cinnamon

Place rolls in oven 1 hour or until double in size.

I used an old fashion basic cake mix, but I used white instead of yellow. It has been come increasingly popular once again.
1-2-3-4 White Cake

* 1 cup butter, at room temperature
* 2 cups sugar
* 3 cups sifted self-rising flour
* 4 eggs
* 1 cup milk
* 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
