Coloring Your Eyebrows

By Kelley of thatgirlsbathandbody.blogspot.com
Filling in your eyebrows: This post is for beginners as you should not attempt to dye your eye browns even with a brow tint unless professional performed or you have much experience. Not only can dying or bleaching brows at home be unsafe but appear fake if not colored right. My tip is easy and no commitment only temporarily so if you don't like it just wash off or use a makeup remover.

If, like me, you have eyebrows that are a bit too pale in color you can easily make them darker. This technique is used to enhance your eyes unless your going for a less natural look. When applying mascara or an eye makeup always make sure you have excess powder under your eyes. If you're using loose powder, expect to make a mess. It easier to clean up fallen eyeshadow or mascara mess. Groom your brows with a clean mascara brush or similar tool. Move loose hairs into place and blend color for a more natural appearance.

Tools you will need:
Eye brow tweezers or wax kit, brow brush, gel or clear mascara, mirror and liner.
  1. First get your eyebrows into shape by plucking or waxing and brushing. Groom your brows with a clean mascara brush or makeup tool such as a brown brush. I find brown brushes work the best. You can find tools that have a brown brush on one end and a lash brush on the other side. This tool allows you to style your brows by moving loose hairs into place and blend color for a more natural appearance. Next, find a powder eyeshadow that matches your coloring and using a brow brush, gently run the color through your eyebrows.
  2. Don't apply too much, just enough to darken the brows. Try not applying color too dark or too light. To keep all the hairs in place, spray a very small amount of hairspray onto the brow brush, using clear mascara or grooming gel such for hair or brow and sweep that gently through the brows. When coloring your eye brows with powder it is best to use a flat angled brow brush. Apply color by following the natural shape of the brow.
  3. I normally use light brown as that is my natural coloring, but if you dye your hair match your brown as close as possible. At the time I first wrote this post my hair was a dark brown color, as that looks natural with my normal hair coloring. So you may need to experiment a bit to find the correct shade for your eyebrows.

I prefer going a shade darker on my brow and not lighter it does not define your eyes as much in my opinion but try experimenting. When applying color stroke brow with light, feathery strokes, focusing on adding color to thinner areas. Avoid marking brows with too much color you don't want painted on brows.

I have also used brown or eye liners as well as mascara. When using a eyebrow liner make use it is a sharp eyebrow pencil. Mascara? Yes mascara. Others may say "Don't ever use mascara on your eyebrows as it is too thick and will make a mess"!

It may be true for some but if you have fine hair on your browns and was coordinated you will have no problem applying mascara to brown. When apply using a mascara apply to the inner edges first, area closer to the nose, then move to the outer. Note if you wish you may switch this direction to what suits you best and is easier.

If brows are untamed first apply a clear mascara instead of hair spray. Allow the clear mascara to dry first before applying one to two coats. This way you avoid tinting your clear mascara or messing up you browns. Don't not apply to heavy just enough to color.

  • 4. Next, use your eyebrow brush/eyelash comb to brush out any clumps from the mascara. Brown or eyelash brush can be purchased most anywhere including your local drugstore.

Finally you can use any color eyeshadow to match or complement your hair not your outfit because that's outdated. I would suggest trying a little contrast in your eyeshadow. Remember when apply dark color to brows to use a color that is in the same family of your complexion. Such as your skin tone, coloring of your eyes face and natural hair. Go no more than a shade darker if you are new to makeup applications. Remember always skin is in.

Preparation Of The Face For Makeup

This is very important, so that you can understand the high points of your face. Then you will be able to emphasize the best parts you like. For the best final result, you must meticulously prepare your face for the actual application of the makeup.

Identify The Structure Of Your Face:
Emphasize the excellent features of your face and camouflage your handicaps will improve self esteem. Faces are of 2 basic shapes:

1. Angular Faces are well delineated, with a strong bone structure and musculature. Angular faces could be trapezoidal, rectangular, square or triangular.
2. Round Faces, on the other hand, have curved, continuous, gently sloping lines, without any bony projections. Round faces can be oval or the true round form.

The ideal shape of a face is oval, so with the clever use of make-up, you must attempt to make your face appear oval. This can be done by using foundations of different tones-The dark shades(brown or tan) and the pale shades(white or light). Dark make-up tends to reduce, deepen, darken and conceal and is suitable for contouring prominent cheeks, large noses, chubby faces, and for the bags under the eyes. Pale makeup, on the other hand, enlarges lengthens, brightens, fills out, and covers the dark circles under the eyes. Note if the shade is too white it will make your dark circles more noticeable.

Getting Ready:
Before applying makeup, especially if you are dressing for a rather important occasion, you must prepare yourself in a special way. Massage your face with a nourishing cream, follow it up with a suitable mask.See that there are no dark hair visible on the face-bleach them or pluck them, if necessary. You might need to remove unwanted hair from your arms, legs and underarms.

Shaping Your Eyebrows:
The single most important point to remember when shaping your eyebrows is balance. Your facial shape would to a large extent determine the shape of your eyebrows. Here are some tips to help you decide on the shape of your eyebrows.

1. For A Trapezoidal Face: Slightly thick eyebrows drawn gently towards the temple.
2. For A Rectangular Face: Keep the eyebrows as natural as possible.
3. For A Square Face: Give a slightly rounded curve.
4. For A Triangular Face: Brows should not be too thick.Curve the brows slightly upwards.
5. For An Oval Face: Keep the brows parallel to the lid and drawn towards the temple.
6. For A Round Face: Brows should be slightly arched, in an oblique curve directed towards the temple.
Where To Begin And Where To End:
Take a pencil and hold it vertically alongside the outer corner of the nostril; the point where the pencil touches the eyebrow is the starting point. Then slant the pencil from the outer corner of the nostril to the outer corner of the eye, to show you where the arch should end. Then look straight ahead-the highest point for the eyebrows should be directly above the iris. Ideally, the distance between the two eyebrows should be equal to the width of one eye.

Eye Makeup

Eye Makeup:
Almond shaped eyes are considered to be the ideal. So when making up eyes, one tries with the help of light and dark eye makeup to make the necessary changes to give the eyes an almond appearance.

Eyeshadow

Application Technique:
The following steps are followed in the application of eyeshadow shades.

i. Using a fine, blunt-ended brush, gently apply the base colour to the entire lid from the inside to the outside corner and from the base of the lashes to the eyelid crease.

ii. If the eyes need extra definition, a deeper shade is blended into the crease line. This gives depth to the eyes.

iii. The brow bone is highlighted with a light shade. This gives the eyes a wide, open look. The colour is applied to the most prominent area and blended up towards the brow and down to where the contour curves down, toward the eyelid creases.

Before using them on the lids, always test the colours on the back of the hand to test the intensity. You can use even 3-4 colours, provided they are blended well.Remember pale tones emphasize, while deep sooty shades define

Eye Liners:

Application Technique For The Liquid Eyeliner -
Test, on the back of your hand, the amount of pressure you should apply. Unless you are a real artist, it is best to steady your elbow on a flat surface. Work from the inside of the eye to the outside corner and keep the line light and even. If you stop at the corner of the eyes, the effect will be round and wide-eyed;if you continue the line and sweep it up and out, you would get a more exotic look. Finally smudge the edges with a cotton bud to soften them.

Application Technique For The Pencil Eyeliner
Pencils can be used in the same manner to define or extend the shape of the eyes, but they give a softer, more natural line.Keep them sharpened and ready for use, as blunted or broken points can spoil the whole effect.

Correction Of Eyes Using Makeup:
You can improve your eye shape by experimenting with colour and texture.Identify the shape of your eyes and follow the tips given:

i. For Small Eyes: Pluck the eyebrows fine to give maximum eye area.Use a little shadow under the lower lashes as well as on the top of the lid.Blend the shadow on the upper lid from the centre outwards, curving it upwards towards the brow in the shape of a wing.Line both the lids, extending the meeting line fairly out, to increase the length of the eyes.Mascara both the upper and lower lashes, using two coats on the outer lashes only.

ii. For Wide-Set Eyes: Pencil the eyebrows close to each other.Add a little shadow onto the bridge of the nose or blend your shadow close to the corner of the nose and stop at the centre of the upper lid.To make the eyes appear a little closer, start outlining the upper lid from the inner corner of the eye, bringing it near the nose ridge, leaving just the width of one eye in between the two eyes.Continue the line towards the outer corner but not quite extending up to it.

iii. For Close-Set Eyes: Shape the eyebrows so that they don't have the close-together appearance.Use the eyeshadow on the upper outer half of the lid extending above the eye and under the brow.To offset the closeness of the eyes, start drawing the eye line on the upper lid away from the inner corner.Draw it up and out.Similarly, the lower line should not begin from the inner corner.

iv. For Deep-Set Eyes: Use a dark eyeshadow under the eyebrow, but not on the lid, where if you want to, you can use a lighter eyeshadow.Line only the lower lid and extend the line fairly out and up.

v. For Round Eyes: Make sure the shape of your eyebrows is angular. Blend your shadow from the centre of the lid and deepen it at the outer edge of the eye, extending it a little beyond the outer corner of the eye.Line the upper lids, starting from the inner corner and extend it out and up so as to suggest length.
