Young makeup Tricks

Here is a few makeup tricks that will make you look younger with just a sweep of a blush or the cut of your hair. Updated from original date 2010.

1. Keep your hair between your chin and your shoulders. Side-swept bangs and hair no longer than your shoulders will take off years. Why? Because you want to the most flattering haircuts. Hair that is too long can age you or if short make you appear child like.

2. Wrong Makeup can age you
Go light on foundation. Many women with wrinkles make the mistake of trying to cover them with a face full of heavy drying foundation. Not only is picking the right shade important at any age, but you do not want to highlights wrinkles with makeup that sinks into pores and lines. Instead use a creamy concealer only on the parts of your face that need covering up. I recommend applying a tinted moisturizer like Olay Definity because not only is it a sheer light weight formula but has light deflective properties so you look your best in any light.

Olay's Definity is also SPF 15 so you can protect your skin while to anti-aging ingredients help try the wrinkles you do have. Harsh unflattering light also try Revlon's Photo Ready Makeup. Finally this came out at an affordable price. Years ago Lancome came out this a photo airbrush makeup and it really did give you flawless skin.

Also, no matter how pale you are, go a shade or two darker with your foundation or tinted moisturizer. If you are not interested in sheer liquid you may go a little heavier with a cream foundation which is great for dry skin. It's all about blending and not applying too much makeup at once. Use a mirror in natural lighting. One problem when using heavy makeup in the daytime is that peach fuzz or facial hair on older woman becomes more apparent.

Choosing the right shade and color become even more important as you age. Lighter shades only highlight wrinkles wear darker contour. Another trick to looking younger is to wear makeup that is best suited for your skin and age. Makeup to avoid dark, matte, brown shades and products that contain glitter specially in lipstick. It tends to be not only drying but skin will appear dull and lifeless.

They only focus on your lips will be the noticeable lines. Avoid matte brown lipstick at all cost as they tend to be dry therefor they settle into your lip lines making your appear older. This can happen at any age if you life are dry. Makeup sure to use a dry tooth brush to gentle buff off any excess skin from lips. Apply a lip conditioner or moisturizer at night or before applying lipstick. Instead, try creamier lipsticks that are moisturizing to dry lips or youthful lip glosses. (Glittery lipsticks or glosses are especially bad and make your lips appear wrinkled). Here are 15 more lipstick tricks and tips.

Many women I have meet are more concerned in wear colors that they fav and not the most flattering. Don't get me wrong you should love any color you choose, but you also want to look your best. First impression in all in our young and beauty obsessed world. Instead try wearing your cool tone blue or silver in an accessory. Perhaps a white tee under neath a lower cut top in blue or a white collared shirt. This will allow you to wear more color and add more to your wardrobe. The white shirt will be up against your face and not the blue.

3. Stick to creamy blushes and shadows Older skin usually means dry skin, so creamy blushes and shadows are your best bet. Also, powder blushes and shadows tend to settle into your fine lines and wrinkles, while creamier products "plump" up your skin.

4. Highlight your eyes. Eyes should glisten. Great eye makeup will make eyes "pop". First keep brows groomed and naturally filled in. Use a highlighter in a light color under your brown bow bone to make eyes area lifted. Keep eye makeup fresh and dewy for a youthful look. Applying a light reflective eye shadow shade under your eye liner will attract eyes away from the wrinkles on your face.

6. Define those eyes Curled lashes immediately make eyes "pop." One tip I love I learned from the editors of Allure: You can curl your lashes AFTER mascara application, just make sure the mascara has dried. I find lining my eyes helps make my somewhat tiny eyes look 10 times larger. I rarely leave the house now without mascara.

7. Don't over pluck Once you hit your 30's, you'll want to be careful not to over pluck your eyebrows since brows are less apt to grow back if you excessively pluck. Find out what you can do to fix overplucked brows.

8. How to Conceal Wrinkles Less is more when it comes to downplaying wrinkles on your face. Find out the right and wrong way to apply powders and foundation.

9. Try teeth whitening Over time, teeth may yellow from age or stain from coffee, blueberry, tea, red sauce or red wine. You can whiten teeth quickly with over-the-counter products such as Crest White strips. Becareful with teeth whitens though as many orthodontist and dentist will tell you to not use whiteners too often. Use mouthwash and toothpaste with baking soda or/and florid.

10. Stand up straight. My grandmother always said stand up straight and stick your chest out. You not only come across as sexy and self confident but you will look thinner and younger as well.

11. Get a good night's sleep. A poor night's sleep is damaging to your over all appearance and health. Your eyes are puffy, your skin sallow and dull and your face sags. If that is not bad enough you are shortening you life spam. Spend at less 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

12.
Don't smoke. Few things age you faster than smoking and tanning. You will notice pre-mature aging over time and who wants to look older if you don't have too?

13. Drink plenty of water exercise and eat right.
This really works. Have you ever noticed that the woman that age well as take care of themselves. How about the granny that still rides a motorcycle etc. Sure you can have a face lift but even you can't full mother nature. So work on maintaining a healthy life style.

14. Watch that powder habit. NEVER use powder on women over 50 unless because powder highlight wrinkles by laying atop. Younger skin looks dewy which is youthful and you should not use powder (except for the nose and chin).

  • Downplay jowls with gorgeous earrings, but stay away from chokers, which bring eyes straight to your jawline. Love necklaces? They should hit at the collarbone or lower. Don't wear elaborate earrings and a necklace, pick one or the other. Both can be overkill.
  • Got a crepe-y neck? Haircuts that hit just below the chin will draw attention away from your neck. Long cuts attract the eye downward, according to stylist John Barrett in the November 2007 issue of O magazine. I also love the look of scarves, wrapped several times around the neck. Very European. • Don't apply blush to the apples of your cheeks or you risk looking like a clown. Instead, choose a rosy blush and using a large fluffy brush, sweep color over the highest point of your cheekbones. Start about an inch in from the nose.
  • Dewy skin is always youthful. Because aging skin tends to be dry, skip the powders and opt instead for liquid foundation and creamy blush.

Crow's Feet Around the Eyes and Lips

People start developing crow's feet around the eyes in their 30s. I consider my own "laughing lines" and believe it's sign of a good life.
  • Don't try to cover up wrinkles around the eyes with heavy coats of concealer. You'll end up with raccoon eyes. Instead, apply just a few dabs of concealer and always pat in concealer with your ring finger. You can also use a brush which distributes concealer more evenly. See my list of Top 10 Concealers.
  • Always skip powder around the eye area, it settles into wrinkles.
  • Laugh lines around lips? Plump up lips and bring attention to THEM, not the surrounding area, by using a moisturizing lip gloss. Any time you add moisturizer to skin or lips, it plumps them up, making them appear more youthful. See My Favorite Lip Glosses.

Saggy Lids

Crepe-y lids are another natural part of the aging process. You can spend thousands on an eyelift or you can try these beauty tips that cost nothing.
  • Never apply mascara to bottom lashes. Instead, curl lashes and then apply a couple coats of the darkest mascara you can find. Curling lashes always makes eyes pop. You may enjoy 15 Mascara Tips and Tricks.
  • Makeup artists also suggest keeping eyeliner to the upper lid only. A liquid liner stays better than pencils. You can practice curving the line up on the outer corners of eyes to "lift" them. Avoid thick, heavy lines, however. I am a believer in rule-breaking however, so I think you can go ahead and line the bottom lashes, just skip the liquid liner and try a pencil instead. Don't make the line thick and be sure to smudge. Also, your eyes will look beady if you try to line the inside of your eyes (my mom used to do this and it drove me crazy). SeeHow to Apply Eyeliner.
  • Reconsider shimmers. Shimmery eyeshadows only highlight crow's feet. The one area they work in is the inside corner of the eye. Apply a dot of shimmery light eyeshadow in the instead corner of the eye to make eyes pop. See 10 Eyeshadow Tricks I Wish I Knew Years Ago.
  • When you have a saggy upper lid, no need to go all out with several different colors of eye shadow. Instead, keep eyeshadow in place all day with an eyeshadow primer, then apply a couple sweeps of a light eyeshadow that's flattering to your skin color. Skip the bright, crazy colors. I recommend primers in How to Keep Your Eyeshadow in Place for Hours.
  • False eyelashes have made a comeback. But skip the full lashes from the 70's and instead opt for individual lashes. See how to apply false lashes.

Thinning or Bushy Eyebrows

I'm a stickler for good brows and am known for making my friends let me tweeze theirs.
Keeping your brows done nicely is like having a face lift without surgery, according to author Charla Krupp's brow guy. Here are some tips for keeping your brows perfectly done:
  • Get your brows professionally done. Nothing opens eyes up like curling lashes and keeping your brows neat. If you can't afford waxing or threading every few weeks, use the professional's job as a map for your own tweezing. Simply pluck the stray hairs that grow in between professional tweezing or waxing. How to pluck your own brows.
  • Drawn-in brows are a no-no. You know the pencil-thin line you see some of your friends or women in your town wear? Well, they only age you and they're somewhat tacky. Learn how to properly fill in sparse brows.
