Skin Care Tips

When looking for a cleansers what ingredients should I be looking for? Read if it contains Shea Butter, Glycerin, or Aloe Vera. What ingredients do I want to avoid?

DRY SKIN:
Ingredients such as Shea butter, olive oil and kosher glycerin act as gentle moisturizers which coat and protect the skin, while SSL Free products gently cleanses without over-drying. Examples: That Girl's Bath and Body kosher vegetable glycerin soap, goat's milk soap or our Facial Cream Cleanser. Cream cleanser are best for dry skin and not gels which are better for oily skin.

OILY SKIN:
Look for facial cleansers, which contain benzyl peroxide and salicylic acids. Natural alternatives can be green tea, tea tree oil, lavender, baking soda and much more. These ingredients help to wash away stubborn oils, plus they act as an anti-bacterial to protect your skin against inflammation and break-outs. Examples: That Girl's Facial Cleanser, Basis Clear Glycerin Bar and tea tree oil soap.

SENSITIVE SKIN:
Look for ingredients like Aloe Vera, glycerin, lavender, sweet almond oil, and chamomile. They can help soothe sensitive skin without causing irritation. If your allergic to nuts you should not use almond oil. Examples: That Girl's Facial Wash, That Girl's Lavender & Oatmeal Soap.

• DON'T CLEANSE TOO OFTEN: Wash your face no more than twice a day. Cleansing too often will only make dry skin drier and oily skin more oily.
• DON'T USE TOO MUCH CLEANSER: Dilute your cleanser with enough water when you wash... The less concentrated your cleanser, the more gentle it will be.
• DON'T USE CLEANSERS CONTAINING ALCOHOL: Using toners and astringents may feel wonderful, but over-using these will irritate your skin!
• DON'T OVER-SCRUB : Too much scrubbing will make your skin dull and flaky. Avoid abrasive facial pads and facial scrubs.
• DON'T UNDER-RINSE: Facial cleansers can leave an invisible
residue behind which can clog your pores. Rinse three times, then rinse again!

Are You Having Dry Skin Problems this Winter?

I've had a few people ask why they are still having problems with dry and itchy skin in these colder months. Answer it's time to change your skin regime and moisturizer. Just like the seasons our skin is ever changing. Whether is biology, health, the foods we eat or the season.

Plus the artificial heat produced by the heaters cause people's skin to dry. Your body's chemistry is changing about every 7 years. If your skin is still itchy it maybe the type of moisturizer you are using. You should not use the same moisturizer in the winter you use in the summer. A good hydrating moisturizer for the winter like our Night Cream along with a natural moisturizing mineral foundation would be a good choice to change too.

If you skin is still dry use our eczema balm, emu oil, or vegan healing oil. These are for the most dry of skin. Use a toner and exfoliate with a very gentle exfoliator that will not break the skin or the bank. If you still have problems then ask. Later I'll post on blog about how to choose a good moisturizer.

Winter and Cracked Skin

Question:

Hi, In the winter, I get cracks around my fingernails. What product do you recommend for this? Also, my feet get severely dry and callused. How about for that? Thanks.

Answer: Number one thing I always suggest is the Eczema Balm. That has the most powerful oils and quickest results. Next would be the Intense Night Repair Cream. Finally we will be adding a new product on our online store http://thatgirlsbathandbody.com/ , a cuticle pen. You might try the Cuticle oil brush pen. Those are my suggestions. Hope it's helpful.

How to Apply Foundation

Post updated since 2008. There are the basic formulations of foundation: liquid, cream, mineral, powder, and cream to powder. The formulation you use should depend on a few factors: Do you have a lot of excess shine? Do you have patches of dry, flaky skin? Are there dark circles, blemishes or other areas on the skin you would like to minimize? What texture feels comfortable on your skin?
ever possible.

The right everyday foundation will make your skin look naturally radiant. It should feel comfortable on your skin all day long and not require much maintenance through the day. The current trend in foundation application is to apply only where needed, most likely toward the center of the face, and letting your natural skin shine through wherever possible.

Apply foundation with finger tip, makeup sponge or foundation brush. When applying liquid makeup make sure to apply to the back of hand. Doing this will warm foundation and to keep from applying too much at once. Apply makeup lightly. Then apply concealer where needed after foundation - yes over top of makeup. Make sure to pick foundation and concealer that formulas works together.

When picking foundation make sure it closely matches your skin tone if not 2 shades lighter. Concealer should as be one shade lighter than foundation. Foundations can also be bought with technology that matches pigments better, but you still need to pick your correct shade. If going to a nigh club use a warmer/brighter shade - sheer formula. Pink shade of concealer if green circles or yellow base if dark purple circles or redness. Use a brush if using mineral powder or sponge if liquid to pat or brush away excess makeup. This will give a more flawless image. Need more help. Ask a topic by commenting or add your tips not found here.
